Lionel Tate May Be Transferred to Juvenile Facility

Florida officials have announced that Lionel Tate may be transferred to juvenile facility, which is at least good news. Until now they’ve had to keep him in an isolation cell normally reserved for suicidal prisoners, because of the dangers for abuse if he is in contact with adult prisoners. Unfortunately, they are also talking about reducing his sentence back to something closer to the three years of house juvenile detention, a move I find reprehensible. Lionel Tate belongs in prison for the rest of his life. I applaud the direction the state is taking to make that stay more humane (of course it will never be truly humane without serious reforms to the way that prisons, adult and juvenile, work), but I cannot stand with trying to be humane to violent prisoners by eliminating the prison.

I think that Lionel Should serve a couple years and then be on probation for the next ten years. He was a little boy, he was doing what he saw on tv and was trying to be like the people on tv.

C’mon people. Stop being part of the problem and be part of the solution.

Lionel was released after three years on jan 7 2004.

He violated parole in sept of 2004.

In May of 2005, he held a pizza man at gunpoint and beat up a minor.

But he should “be out in 10 years and serve probation”

You’re all idiots. He should be locked up for life.

I think that he should get life, he was 12 when he did it and a 12 year old knows when he/she she is hurting sombody! I read a paper on him that said he threw her in to a 166 pound glass case and she only weighed 46 pounds! They also said that he wasn’t retarted and he had a normal IQ. He had 15 suspentions from school in 8 years! well thats what i think!

I think somewhere along the line someone failed this child. Yes he killed that little girl and he deserved some type of punishment for that crime but did anyone stop to consider the affect “ADULT” inmates have on the “NEW FISH”! And this “NEW FISH” was a growing child still very wet behind the ears so it was that much easier to influence him into the the different things that go on in Prison. For all of you that have not worked in the Penal System you don’t know the half that goes on beind those bars. You can believe that it is not a bed of roses and it is not intended to be but a inmate still deserves protection as well as fair treatment! We don’t know what he had to endure once he was released but being that this is a very hard and cold world I can only imagine. I don’t know what may have influenced him to get back into trouble but reality is that for anyone to serve 10 to 15 years on probation with no type of incidents is a setup for failure. So in my opinion when they released this child made into a man way before his time they had plans on him returning into this supposedly great judicial system we have anyway. Now if all of you that are in support of Lionel or opposed imagine it was you or one of your family members then respond. It is clear that the “veteran” inmates were coaching this “rookie” inmate right back into the system they are so fond of!

Lionel Tate did NOT do the pizza delivery robbery, Willie Carruthers did and the BSO knows it.The chief “witness” for the States case is the actual perpetrator and nobody down there is interested in publicizing the truth. The Broward Sheriffs office want him back in prison that desperately. I have seen the “evidence” firsthand and if it were going to be an impartial, truly fair trial, the State could not proceed with that evidence. The corruption down there is horrible. God help my Godson, Lionel.
