Pimps Prey On Girls in Emergency Shelters; Authorities Miss Point, Blame Girls
Pimps prey on desperately poor and abused girls, and it turns out that Atlanta’s emergency shelter for abused girls is providing an easy, centralized location to find them — right downtown next to Stewart street, blocks from the red light district [Atlanta Journal-Constitution]. Unfortunately the response has not been to step up funding for better social services and more activities, or to think about cleaning up the red-light district, or to throw the fucking pimps in prison. Instead, they’re talking about turning the fenced-off shelter into more of a lock-down to keep girls and young women from running away
(also known as freely leaving — it’s a home, not a detention center). The solution is not to isolate them out in a safe
little suburb or to install spy cameras everywhere (although using cameras outside to help identify pimps would be a useful application) or wall the residents in. Treat the disease, not the symptoms.
Anticopyright.
