As a newly-minted neighbouring state, I just posted of my review of Kevin Carson’s Organization Theory which I enjoyed rather too much.

I wrote two pieces about “profit” – what is it? and why is it?
I have returned from Japan! I hiked through the mountains of Tokushima Prefecture in Shikoku, goofed off in Osaka, saw some of the historic sites of Nara and Mount Koya, enjoyed a wonderful Takarazuka performance in Takarazuka, camped out by an old caldera lake ringed by still-active volcanoes in Hokkaido, engaged in general shenanigans acquiring reading material for the next few months in Tokyo, and succeeded in neither murdering nor being murdered by my travel companion despite all the heat, humidity, excess luggage, and “Surprise Mountains” along the way!

Not much to report on my end. I am reading Virgina Postrel’s The Future and Its Enemies.
I ranted about a truly evil federal prosecutor (there are so many of them, aren’t there?) who railroaded a completely innocent woman to get her convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
I also reprinted Michael Shermer’s review of Peter Leeson’s new book The Invisible Hook: The Hidden Economics of Pirates, since most readers will be unable to access the book review published in the journal Nature.
It’s hard to believe your shameless self-promotion Sundays have been going on for more than 13 months now!

‘Surprise Mountains?’

Oh yes, Surprise Mountains! You see, we’d be following our maps, and they’d point us a certain way, and we’d go that way, looking for signs aroundabouts marking the route, and we’d follow them, and follow them, and follow them… and suddenly, they’d start going up a mountain! Surprise! This happened at least six times, three of which were in close succession on one day’s hike without anywhere to stop in between as we started running out of water and snacks. Hooray!
… next time, topographical maps might be a significant improvement over our previous method.
