Found a thread where a guy wants reasons to support his gut-statism and liberal democrats respond:

    http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3275540

It’s kind of funny how most of the replies are something like “Voluntary income tax won’t work because nobody would pay it”. Yet, the goodness and efficacy of government are never questioned.

    From the thread:

I cannot think of any examples of a completly voluntary society but you can head over to E/N and check out all the bad room mate threads for any number examples of people getting away without paying their fair share.

Thereby demonstrating that a freed market in roommates can never succeed in the real world? Let’s nationalize rental arrangements!

There does seem to be a powerful feeling of entitlement people have. Voluntary taxation would prevent people “paying their fair share”, “helping the community”, etc. I wonder if there is any amount of government foolishness or waste that would persuade some individuals that taxation is wasted money.
