The Spitting Image, “Bibite ex hoc omnes. Hic est enim sanguis meus” edition

Here's a pretty old post from the blog archives of Geekery Today; it was written about 19 years ago, in 2005, on the World Wide Web.

Many people, like Echidne (2005-04-19), have raised questions about the newly appointed Vicar of Christ, Pope Benedict XVI (formerly Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger). Some take some comfort from the fact that he is old. I’m not so sure that will help, though; I have some serious questions about his papacy too:

    Hi Charles:

    Contrary to many progresives, I am happy with the new Pope election. Nothing better to bring down a hideous institution like the Catholic church, that a guy like Ratzinger. If people are already leaving the church, imagine when they see him preaching for the church to return to the 11th century.
