Shameless Self-promotion Sunday #55
Here's a pretty old post from the blog archives of Geekery Today; it was written about 15 years ago, in 2009, on the World Wide Web.
Happy Sunday! Let’s get Shameless.
What have you been up to this week? Write anything? Leave a link and a short description for your post in the comments. Or fire away about anything else you might want to talk about.

I tried to explain to someone–who was working through Nietzsche–the relation between the relative and the absolute.

I’ve been leaving comments on here…
And on Roderick’s blog! Plus a FB comment on Gillis’s status update. I should be going to Porcfest with our resident gunslinger i.e. Soviet Onion. I get to see Angela Keaton, Starchild, Anthony Gregory, and some other figures of interest. I went to a few eating outs with the rents in KC I am visiting. I am following current events and reading Rand’s insights on the theory of knowledge. I am seeing a new therapist type.
Oh I also have The Agorist Primer. It’s basically a review of Misean-Haykeian economics
BCS got worse. I hear Lee Doren favors arresting tax resistors. Rand warned us about what would happen with a thicker conception of liberty. The damn conservatives are applying their pragmatic collectivist nationalist framework. I am pondering asking an Objectivist I am on good terms with to ask the ARI people to choose better dialogue partners.
Why not one of the more quais-liberal “Progressive” pundits? Convince them that collectivism hurts. Rachel Maddow will take Obama to task for failing to reject Bush’s anti-individualist legacy pertaining to the Bill of Rights. That’s more than O fascist Reilly will do. She is probably less of a hardcore drug warrior and willing to consider prostitution decriminalization ~ if not already endorse it save fear of MSNBC firing her. ARI might think she’s a “defeatist” in the War of Terror and too much of a welfareist.
Whatever!
At least she’s not a Christo-fascist. That should count for something. Do the conservatives ARI hobnobs with on TV have much of a secular approach to conceptualization? Relative to the anti-Christo fascist mainstream pundits? Who is really more changeable?

Heh; I am an editor and writer!

On unfinished Agorist Primer. It’s a review of the Austrian insights on value, capital, interest, and so on. It talks about the predicated anarchist protection agency triumph.

Roderick’s blog is in trouble. The comments system has been a problem, but the recent data loss was more serious. Right now the site is down, but maybe that’s because it’s being restored.

It should be 99% back now. Just some of the more recent (= last 3 weeks or so) comments are lost, I believe.

In lieu of the discussion of property rights on this blog, I present this story:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financetopics/financialcrisis/5516536/US-cities-may-have-to-be-bulldozed-in-order-to-survive.html
They want to bulldoze parts of cities to deal with economic decline.
Soviet Onion /#
I wonder how many “progressives” plan to be out in the street blocking those bulldozers.

As a matter of public record, the anarchist community in Wellington fought (and, sadly, lost), a long and bloody battle to keep a bypass from being built through the low-end community in NW Wellington. The motives were a mix of anti-capitalist and environmentalist principle and rational self-interest (the old infoshop was in the path of the bulldozers, and many anarchists had flats in the area). Before anyone snarks, it is worth noting that it was precisely such material common interests which kept the XIX century Parisian intelligentsia on close terms with the oppressed and marginalised… an insight which I owe to a Kiwi libertarian communist with a fierce class war focus (we both thought the way the collective handled incentive structures was nuts).
Also, look at this:
“Dozens of US cities may have entire neighbourhoods bulldozed as part of drastic “shrink to survive” proposals being considered by the Obama administration to tackle economic decline.”
Wikipedia states that the Daily Telegraph is considered ‘Britian’s other paper of record’. My understanding is that in mainstream economics, a ‘recession’ is often described as a stall in economic growth, while a ‘depression’ indicates economic shrinkage. In such a context, the term ‘decline’ suggests a tacit elite acknowledgement that the economic crisis is indeed a depression. Either that, or, just as likely, the people who run the paper believe that portraying the crisis in these terms will be (in one way or another) to their political advantage.
Lest this analysis seem conspiratorial, the Wikipedia page also mentions that last month, the same paper published details of the personal expenses of MPs and thereby caused several resignations.
And this:
“The government looking at expanding a pioneering scheme in Flint, one of the poorest US cities, which involves razing entire districts and returning the land to nature.”
I’m not an economist, but am I reading this currectly? ‘Let’s destroy ourselves back to prosperity’? This is either a panicked attempt to replace a colossally misallocated infrastructure by brute force or it is sheer five-cups-of-tea Keynesian lunacy.
Bush II fiddled while New Orleans sank. Now Mr. Kildee, a friend of Mr. Obama, is looking at euthanising Detroit, as well as “50 cities[] identified in a recent study by the Brookings Institution”.
Um, America, if you’re cannibalising your own base for resources, you’ve lost.
If I may cite another article without sanctioning the suggestions of classism, Atlas Shrugged is now.

It looks like “a panicked attempt” – at first – “to replace a colossally misallocated infrastructure by brute force.” The Torygraph article refers to overextended garbage routes and similar problems; the city had sprawled, and since GM moved out, has lost much of its population…

A Louisiana parish has adopted new laws forbidding crossdressing, as well as certain fashions:

re: Louisiana parish
It is this kind of future which is offered to us by the decentralised statisms and village collectivisms currently being offered from several sources under the libertarian brand.
