On the road again…

Here's a pretty old legacy post from the blog archives of Geekery Today; it was written about 22 years ago, in 2002, on the World Wide Web.

As of this morning I will be on the road to visit the family in Texas (partially because I haven’t seen them in ages, partially as a maneuver to get the car back in time to pick up a guest from Atlanta), so GT and The Daily Linkroll may be sporadic for a little while. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

In the meantime, have a ball reading T. Phoebe Reilly’s review and critique of Ghost World from Bitch. I recently saw the film and enjoyed it a great deal; the review does a pretty good job of summing up both what I liked and what worried me throughout.

I had similar feelings about Ghost World. Loved the comic and regretted the absence of the two girl’s friendshp’s dinamics and banter. Prehaps you’ve seen Heavenly Creatures?'[(dir)Peter Jackson,(!)With Kate Winslet(Sic? and, yes, that obnoxious girl from Titanic, but she’s good in this.] He thouroughly and astutely explores the intense friendship of two young Women in a way that Ghost World barely hinted at. There is, unfortunately, a creepy sex scene involving one of the two protagonists,(Pouline) and a slightly older man, but at least it is brief and not at all central to the plot. It is also a tragic film, and once and a while I find myself wondering why Peter Jackson Had to write them into such unfortunate fates, but, then again, it’s “based on a true story”. MAx
