Shameless Self-promotion Sunday
Here's a pretty old post from the blog archives of Geekery Today; it was written about 14 years ago, in 2010, on the World Wide Web.
Hey all,
It’s Sunday; you know what that means. Sing you Shameless sinners.
I’ve been a bit quiet this weekend, even though there’s lots going on, with the Reader Question and elsewhere, that I’d like to comment on. But family is in town this weekend and I’ve been trying to clear out work in preparation for my being out of town most of next week. (L. and I are looking forward to celebrating our fourth wedding anniversary. Somewhere other than Vegas.) I’ll try to catch up on as much as I can before I leave town.
Anyway, the past week, I’ve been working on some Food Not Bombs projects, a couple of articles that I have in progress, a major new release of FeedWordPress, making steady progress on transcribing old Anarchist periodicals for the Fair Use Repository, and of course keeping up with you all here at the blog.
And you all? What have you been up to this week? Write anything? Leave a link and a short description for your post in the comments. Or fire away about anything else you might want to talk about.

I’m volunteering my Freedom Blogs service to mirror censored websites:
Freedom Blogs will mirror censored websites
Incidentally, if anyone takes me up on it, your FeedWordPress plugin will be the enabling technology :)

I’ve been reading “Fire on the Mountain” by Bisson as well as Guns of the South. I thought of you when I came to the part where Lee realizes slavery is an evil institution that should be disbanded. :)
The Bisson book raises the interesting point that if John Brown’s raid had succeeded in galvanizing an all-out slave rebellion in the South US then it could have led to the end of racism much earlier than actually happened (and of course the “Star Trek” style portrayal of our own world as a dismal dystopia was fun too).

Among the writing I’ve been doing is an essay on how the state hinders alternatives to fossil fuel. The approach I took was largely inspired by Carson and your Many Monopolies post. http://c4ss.org/content/2570
This week on Thinking Liberty, Chris Lempa and James Tuttle from ALLiance Journal will talk with us about creating freedom. The live show is on Tuesday, 8-10pm Eastern at http://thinkingliberty.net.
Maybe now that our production quality is much higher we can have Charles and Roderick on the show, and actually make a recording of it. Too bad I don’t know when you’ll be in the New York area again. We could have you on as phone guests though.

I’ve started carving a set of linoleum blocks and rubber stamps for Corvus Editions. And I’ve been writing, then scrapping and rewriting, the same couple of essays on anarchism and environmentalism, for about two weeks now. I expect I’ll get it all pulled together this next week. Translations have been a lot more straightforward. I posted Multatuli’s “[Prayer of an Ignoramus(http://libertarian-labyrinth.blogspot.com/2010/05/freethought-gem-from-multatuli.html)” and Joseph Leroux’s “Your Nationalities” to my blog. The second piece, by Pierre Leroux’s son, is a good introduction to the decentralized internationalism that the “Doctrine of Humanity” crowd called “federative humanity.”

Gabriel: My favorite part of Guns of the South was when Lee, at some social function, asked a man with a hook for a hand where he’d been wounded. I immediately piped up “In the hand, you damn fool!”

Chris Lempa and I have finished ALLiance Journal #5! This issue contains original articles from Kevin Carson, Thomas Knapp, John Goodman, and Darin Worden.
