Is it just me or is the water in this pot getting a little hotter? (posted 28 April 2008)

In Chicago, Mayor Richard Daley wants patrol cops in the inner city to carry M4 assault rifles on the streets.

In Springfield, patrol cops in the inner city are going to switch to black, military-style uniforms on the streets. According to cop mouthpiece Sergeant John Delaney, the purpose of the new uniforms is in order to make sure that the cops spread a sense of fear.

Do you feel safer now?

I live in Chicago, and to answer your question: Um, no.

Especially in light of government cops’ apparent privilege of being able to shoot people to death and get away with it.

Yeah, “a sense of fear.” I’m definitely getting that these days, and I’m starting to think it’s about time for me and my family to get the hell out of Dodge, if you get my drift.

    Bob,

As a fellow Chicagoan, I know what you mean. The news tonight just ran stories on two incidents of police beating. Between that and the tyrannical mayor, the City Council oligarchs, organized crime and corruption at every level, it’s really turning into an Orwellian charicature down here.

Leaving might be the sensible thing, but we should really stay and resist. Maybe it’s time to start a Chicago/Northern Illinois ALL chapter. That can be the new Chicago way.

    Soviet Onion and Bob,

I for one would be excited to hear about a Chicago ALL chapter. If you get anything started, let me know and I’ll talk it up here.

By the by, if you do decide to start an ALL chapter and are in need of a domain name, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me. I currently own libertarianleft.org, which I’m using for Southern Nevada ALL (http://sonv.libertarianleft.org/), and would be happy to set y’all up to use http://chicago.libertarianleft.org/ or something similar.

    Bob,

Message is in the pipe. Check your email. Hope to hear back from you.
