Here's a pretty old legacy post from the blog archives of Geekery Today; it was written about 20 years ago, in 2004, on the World Wide Web.

If you thought that comparing George Bush to Aragorn and his assault on Iraq to the War of the Rings was not quite enough for you, then you might be the sort of person who appreciates the latest Freeper Flash movie classic, When the Man Comes Around, set to Johnny Cash’s song by the same name. The Man coming around in the movie is our brave leader, George W. Bush; the movie is a slideshow of war propaganda, with big Bush press photos set in time to the refrain … when the man comes around. It would be a bit of a mistake to describe it as the latest entry in the genre of Hawk Hagiography: if you’re not familiar with the song, it’s describing the Second Coming and the Man in question is Jesus Christ. Hagiographies are about the saints; putting George Bush in the place of the Lord and Savior needs a different word entirely.

My suggestion is blasphemy. Here’s what the Bible had to say about this sort of thing:

1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.

4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?

5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.

Just suppose the second coming is true and armaggedon is here, what do we all have to do?

Do we all have to stop sinning? What is a sin anyway? Who will be cast into the lake of fire to be punished for eternity – who will decide if you sin is bad enough for this to happen? If you kill someone is that a sin…or is it just god taking back one of his children by going through you? If only god can give life and only god can take life then is a murderer blameless? And if we are created in the image of god aren’t we all capable of giving and taking life wouldn’t we all have the urge to give and take life? Jesus once said that we are all sinners – does that mean we will all perish in the lake of fire? God also said that one sin leads to another – does that mean if you sin you are doomed to be a sinner forever?

No it does not. There is an answer to all these questions. It is the truth that resonates within all of us but we often ignore it. Listen to it NOW. If armeggedon is here you must listen NOW.

Jesus was once thought to have blasphemed when he forgave someone of his sins – they said only god possessed the power to do this. Jesus replied that if you forgive a sin it is forgiven of them, if you retain a sin it is retained. What does this mean – I will come to that in just a moment.

psychologists have known for a long time that truely happy people cannot commit crimes against another person. That emotions like sadness guilt and anger are all bottled inside these people who commit awful crimes even though they may not show it. They may feel happy to kill someone but inside they are hurting deeply, they are only happy because they are fighting their demon within – only under the mask it has the face of an innocent person or child. Their demon within can take the face of anyone/everyone and they can end up hurting those who care about them including themselves.

So where does this leave us? Simple. When god said one sin leads to another he meant when you retain a sin it leads to another. If you harber guilt for something you did or something somebody said you did it will eat you up inside and eventually you will sin again. When jesus said forgive sins and it will be forgive – He meant YOU should forgive YOUR own sins, YOUR own failings. Jesus said everyone sins, THIS is TRUE -EVERYONE DOES SIN, we ALL make mistakes – it is part of our learning nature, if we forgive all of our sins only then can we be really happy. This is what jesus wants – he doesn’t want us to keep punishing ourselves.

SO I ask again – Just suppose the second coming is true and armageddon is here, what do we all have to do?

    • Forgive yourselves of all your sins, forget everything. It takes a long time to really forgive yourself of the things you have done it takes a lot of soul searching, but you must start now.

    • Forgive everyone that has sinned you, you cannot judge them for their sins have come from their own dislike of themselves. Forgive them and forget it completely, you cannot change the past, do not bring the past back to punish them that is not forgiveness – forget it and you and they will be free.

    • Think about NOW what can you do NOW that will make you and your family happy. Only now will make a difference not the future.

    • Be happy,it is your choice to be happy – take the choice back and use it – certain things come that may make us sad but it doesn’t have to be so, you can still choose to be happy no matter what, you can still choose to be content.

These are hard things to do – they are not simple. They are what some people call enlightenment. Work through it, when you are finally, truely happy – you are ready for jesus and his new world. There will be no money, no possessions you must be prepared to leave it all behind. If you are happy inside, truely happy – money won’t have real meaning, nor possessions. Then you will be ready…
