Shameless Self-promotion Sunday

Here's a pretty old post from the blog archives of Geekery Today; it was written about 14 years ago, in 2010, on the World Wide Web.

This has been something of a busy week for me. I’d go through it all, but it’s mostly been a week of tilling, and of planting, and of gardening. Both literally and metaphorically. I have some time now when I am working on a number of projects, but relatively free of deadlines — something which will, I think, actually help things a great deal. When you’ve got deadlines to deal with, you’ve got to deal with them, but you can’t really set a deadline on gardening. Things grow best in their own time. The fruits should be coming soon; in the meantime, I’ll just say that my sojourn in Denver was lovely, and that the APEE panel on Free Market Anti-Capitalism earlier this week went well, that APEE was, in general, a good time, and that it was really fantastic to meet up with Roderick, Gary, Sheldon, and Steve. I’ll have more to say, soon, I hope. It’s getting warm here in Vegas, and I’m trying to catch the last few weeks of pleasant spring warmth, before the long, hot summer begins; once that happens, I’ll be looking forward to spending some more time in the shade indoors, getting work done on the Fair Use Repository, the Southern Nevada ALL distro, and a number of other projects that will take some quiet time in the scriptorium.

That’s my shamelessness for the weekend. And you? What have you been up to this week? Write anything? Leave a link and a short description for your post in the comments. Or fire away about anything else you might want to talk about.

The Rationalist Position on IP — I’m trying to synthesize the Rothbardian position on IP with anti-IP libertarianism and also am taking into account utilitarian concerns. Parts 1 and 2 are up, 3 – 5 will be posted throughout the week.

A brief blog I wrote defending egalitarianism as entangled with libertarian values.

I had a busy, successful week as well, but the best bit was the launching of a partnership project with Kate Sharpley Library – the establishment of a fund to purchase texts for their archives which I will first digitize. I’m waiting for confirmation on the order, but we raised enough small donations in the first 24 hours to purchase a first rarity for KSL. I also finished up Corvus Editions 126th pamphlet today.

I had lots of fun at APEE: it was great to meet people in three dimensions after encountering them on-line; and hanging out with Sheldon and dinner with Charles, Laura, and Roderick were both lots of fun. Since then, I’ve managed to be marginally productive: I finished what’s essentially a Carsonian critique of Peter Leeson’s The Invisible Hook.

I recently found, and this week wrote about, two very interesting research projects – Mapping Controversies in Science and Technology for Politics (MACOSPOL) and Comparing Climate Change Policy Networks (COMPON). I also found out that Nora Bateson is making a documentary about her father Gregory Bateson. He’s one of my favorite anthropology theorists, so I’m pretty excited. Finally, I posted some of my future research interests. Wish I could do some gardening too. I miss digging in the soil and turning up a bunch of little wiggly worms! Have a good week! Jeremy

My pet sweet potato plant has been thriving! Also got some catnip sprouts coming up, to be enjoyed by the cat in however many days or weeks it takes ’em to get to a decent size.
