Shameless Self-promotion Sunday

Here's a pretty old post from the blog archives of Geekery Today; it was written about 13 years ago, in 2011, on the World Wide Web.

Sunday! Self-promotion! Shamelessness!

You know the deal. What have you been up to this week? Write anything? Leave a link and a short description for your post in the comments. Or fire away about anything else you might want to talk about.

Publication seems to have been a key focus, again, of the week that was. I kept avoiding work on my incomplete ms. on anarchy and law. But I did make some progress on Conscience. It seems likely I’ll be publishing with a small but real publisher—not a POD printer. So it’s realistic to think the book can be kept in print and that bookstore and other orders can be filled as they occur. I’ve been able to hold costs down and speed up production by doing the layout and design of the cover and the interior myself. If all goes well, the books might be in-hand by May.

Meanwhile: I expect to talk fairly soon with a credible publisher of radical texts about taking on the collection of historical and contemporary stuff (with a broadly economic focus) from the individualist anarchist tradition Charles and I are co-editing (tentative title: Markets Not Capitalism). I’d kind of assumed this would need to be self-published by C4SS, and it makes me happy that an existing radical imprint might provide a home for the project.

My co-worker jokingly suggested I write about his ticket speculating for Coachella. I took his advice.

I got Calvin Blanchard’s “Life of Thomas Paine” and “A Crisis Chapter on Government” published and bound in hardcover editions in time for a Tom Paine’s Birthday/space-warming at my new retail space. The even was a bust, but the books are nice, and one of these days I’ll actually convince anarchists that Blanchard is worth the look. I’ve been working on transcription from “Liberty” and got an assist from Adrian Atari on the James L. Walker material. I went looking today for those C. L. James print-outs, and got distracted by some Dyer D. Lum essays in the spiritualist papers that I had never had a chance to read, let alone type in — and that led me to some material on Josiah Warren’s disputed interest in spiritualism. And so on… Tomorrow, I have to get focused again. Tonight, though, here’s a brand-new bit of Pierre Leroux translation.
